Day Trips

Day Trips Organised by Mermaid
Getting around can sometimes be a bit daunting, especially for those new to India. So to make life as easy as possible, Mermaid has organised day trips which provide cars, drivers, picnic lunches, and guides for visiting some of the most exciting spots around Kochi. These include:

Veega Land
Set amongst 18.5 acres of surpassingly grand and incomparably idyllic environs at Pallikara, Veega Land has become the preferred destination for fun-seekers and holiday makers in south India. The stupendous 7 storey high Vintage Castle is a monument straight out of a fairy tale, as is the eerily captivating Caterpillar Village. Add to this 21 pulse-quickening water slides, a phenomenal wave pool, the dazzling dancing musical fountain (the first of its kind in India), artfully landscaped promenades, enchanting flower gardens, a choice of 3 restaurants and a playful baby elephant Ammu, and you have a truly memorable experience!

Cherai Beach
This lovely unspoilt beach bordering the Vypeen island is ideal for swimming. Dolphins are occasionally seen here. The sea on the western side and the backwaters on the east give this upcoming tourist destination, a uniqueness which can be found only in Kerala.

Elephant Training Centre at Kodanad
Elephants are an integral part of Indian mythology and culture. Once a part of every day life in Kerala, elephants are the most ornamental and auspicious animals here. No festival or celebration is complete without an elephant procession. Rows of majestically caparisoned elephants, replete with colourful silken parasols form the most spectacular part of any event here. Kodanad, set on the southern banks of the Periyar river amid the beautiful high ranges near Perumbavoor, is one of the largest elephant training centres of Kerala.

Vagamon
Vagamon, which is considered as one of the most beautiful travel destinations in the southern part of India, is a hill station located in Meenachil taluk and Kanjirapally taluk of Kottayam and Peerumade taluk of Idukki districts of Kearala. There are some of the good resorts in Vagamon and indeed there is more to the list. These resorts are designed in a way so that the couples might enjoy the surroundings, the views of the hills and even the greenery around.

Magnificent Waterfalls at Athirappalli
Athirappalli and Vazhachal, the two scenic and popular waterfalls on the edge of the Sholayar forest ranges are just 5 km apart. Visitors may swim above the Athirappalli Falls, which join the Chalakkudy river after plummeting down a drop of 80 feet. Both the waterfalls, their cool, misty waters cascading down in the backdrop of thick green forest and rocky terrain, are a scintillating experience for visitors.

Thattekkadu Bird Sanctuary
Thattekkad is made up of dense tropical evergreen and deciduous forest and grassland patches, housing a population of over 500 species of exotic birds. This globally acclaimed bird sanctuary owes much of its fame to Dr. Salim Ali, the internationally renowned ornithologist. Rare birds like the Crimson-throated Barbet, Bee eater, Sunbird, Shrike, Black Winged Kite, Night Heron, Falcon, Grey Jungle Fowl, White-Breasted Water Hen, Hornbill, Ceylon Frogmouth, Rose-billed Roller and Blue-winged Parakeet live here.
